    THE PENGUIN LADY

"At the recent National Marine Educators Association conference I heard Dyan deNapoli tell the story of the penguin rescue she took part in.  As you sit glued to the screen for what is going to happen next, you learn a lot of animal science.  She is a master storyteller and I recommend this presentation highly to anyone who shares a love of the creatures of this world."  -- Harold McWilliams, Ph.D. Senior Project Director, TERC

If you are looking for a unique enrichment program for your organization, look no further!  THE PENGUIN LADY presents compelling educational programs about penguin behavior, biology and conservation that are sure to be a hit with audiences of all ages.  Dyan deNapoli (AKA THE PENGUIN LADY) worked closely with penguins at Boston's prestigious New England Aquarium and in the wild for nine years and she now provides exciting onsite programs about penguins.  Dyan shares her extensive expertise and enthusiasm about these fascinating sea birds with children and adults in various settings including grade schools, colleges, science centers, assisted living facilities, summer camps and libraries throughout the New England region and beyond.

As a Senior Penguin Aquarist at the New England Aquarium, Dyan hand raised dozens of penguin chicks, presented daily programs about penguins to aquarium visitors, was a guest expert on several television  and radio programs, traveled the globe to work with penguin researchers in the field and was the content reviewer for three books about penguins.  She wrote the new penguin chapter for the New Book of Knowledge encyclopedia, which will be published in the spring of 2008.  To date, Dyan has taught approximately 250,000 children and adults in the US and abroad about penguins.

The highlight of her career was flying to South Africa as part of an international team of penguin experts to help save 20,000 penguins from an oil spill.  The rehabilitation effort took three months and 556,000 hours of volunteer labor and, due to the incredible response to the penguins in crisis, 91% of the oiled birds were saved and released back into the wild. This event was historic in its size and success rate, and represents the largest number of animals within a species ever to be rescued and rehabilitated.  Dyan cites her participation in this rescue as the most challenging, yet most rewarding, experience of her life.

Dyan graduated Summa Cum Laude from Mount Ida College in 1996 and was awarded for Exceptional Achievement in the Sciences upon Graduation.  In 2002, she was the recipient of a Distinguished Alumni Award for Outstanding Contributions in the Sciences.  She has served on the college's Vet Tech Committee for several years.  Dyan is a member of the National Marine Educators Association, the Massachusetts Marine Educators Association, North Shore Women in Business, the North Shore Business Forum and Mensa International.  She serves as Vice President and Membership Chair of the Home-based Businesswomen's Network.
